Grace Kalu-Umeh
BASc. Student
University of Regina
Grace is a fourth-year Energy Systems Engineering student at the University of Regina, specializing in Sustainable Energy Engineering. Her research advances the safety and viability of Generation IV small modular reactors (SMRs) by investigating the electrochemical behavior of silicon carbide (SiC) in simulated Deep Geological Repository (DGR) environments. As a research assistant collaborating with Canadian Nuclear Laboratories (CNL), she analyzes how TRISO fuel components interact with corrosive agents under DGR conditions. Grace utilizes advanced electrochemical techniques and materials characterization tools to evaluate SiC performance in sodium chloride and CR-10e simulated groundwater solutions. Outside the lab, she is passionate about promoting STEM education and sustainable technology adoption.
