Matthew Blinkhorn
M.ASc Student , Engineer-In-Training (Saskatchewan)
University of Regina
Matt Blinkhorn is currently pursuing his master’s degree in Energy Systems Engineering at the University of Regina, where his research focuses on running advanced power simulation models to evaluate the suitability of nuclear reactors across different regions of Saskatchewan. He holds a B.A.Sc. in Electronics Engineering from the University of Regina and is presently working as a Project Engineer with Barnard Construction on the Hermes Project in Oak Ridge, Tennessee, where molten salt small modular reactors are under construction. Matt brings a diverse background of engineering and construction management experience to his graduate work. Prior to beginning his master’s program, he worked with Kiewit Construction on major infrastructure projects, including the Trans Mountain Expansion Project and the BC Highway 5 Emergency Flood Repair. His contributions to the latter were recognized with the “Emergency Flood Response 2021” Medal from the BC Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure. Professionally, Matt is interested in the integration of nuclear technology into clean and sustainable energy systems, with a focus on the technical, environmental, and societal challenges of reactor deployment. His long-term career goals include advancing the safe, large-scale adoption of nuclear energy in Canada and contributing to academia through teaching and research.
